Neck Lift

One of the most frustrating consequences of ageing is the development of sagging skin and excess fat that can transform the appearance of the neck, affecting not only the profile but also the overall facial aesthetics. These wrinkles and loose folds beneath the chin, often referred to as a “turkey neck,” can make even a slender individual appear heavier, older, and less confident. The neck lift procedure offers a dynamic and age-defying solution, capable of rejuvenating both youthfulness and self-assurance, making every glance in the mirror a source of pleasure once again.

A neck lift, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, targets the restoration of jaw and neck elasticity by refining neck muscles and reducing neck fat, resulting in a more defined and taut silhouette. Depending on an individual’s facial structure, additional treatments such as liposuction, a mini facelift, eyelid surgery, or dermal fillers may be recommended.

Before the Procedure

During your consultation, your surgeon will engage in a comprehensive discussion regarding your aesthetic aspirations. Tailoring recommendations to your unique physique, medical history, and photographic references, your surgeon will address any questions or concerns that may arise concerning your neck lift procedure.

About the Procedure

The most common type of neck lift is the “open” neck lift, often performed concurrently with a Mini Facelift for optimal results. In this procedure, the critical angle between the jaw and the base of the neck is reshaped to restore youthfulness and vibrancy to the profile. Two incisions are typically made at the ear/hairline, occasionally supplemented by an extra incision under the chin to facilitate the removal of excess fat deposits.

Following the elevation of the neck skin, your surgeon will commence the refinement of underlying muscles and the adjustment of neck tissues. In cases where there is a significant accumulation of excess fat between the skin and muscle, liposuction or the use of injectable fat removers may be recommended to redefine neck contours and enhance definition.

Recovery

Following the procedure, most patients may experience some tenderness, bruising, and swelling in the neck area. However, due to the superior blood flow to the face and neck, the healing process is typically swift and virtually pain-free, with scars tending to fade over time. Pain medications are available if needed. Neck drains are often employed to prevent fluid build-up and expedite recovery. To minimise discomfort and soreness, it is advisable for patients to keep their head elevated. Sutures generally dissolve within 7 days, and patients often find themselves able to return to work and normal activities within a few weeks following a neck lift.
